export file broken

Asked by Alexis

When I export a selection, only part of the selection actually appears when I try to open it as a .png file. Meaning, the top half of the image does not show up.

Hi Alexis,

which Inkscape version are you using?
What is your operating system?
Did you select any custom parameters in the export dialog? (i.e. width, height, y, x in the top half of the dialog)
Are there any patterns in your image?

Can you upload your file somewhere and post a link here? Also, please upload a screenshot of your export dialog settings and link to it in a post here. Attachments will *NOT* work, you need to find a separate website to upload the images (e.g. dropbox, google drive,...).

As png files are written from top to bottom (and not the other way around, as seems to be the problem in your case), I assume that the export itself works, and is not being interrupted by some kind of crash or memory issue (this can happen as well).

Kind Regards,
 Maren

Hi.  I am pretty amateur so I will try to provide the info you need...
I am on a Mac OS X El Capitan,
Inkscape version 0.91
I am exporting a selection - it is text with two images - a logo.  The images show up, but not the top of the text. Here is link to export window  photo 1

Here is link to what the logo should look like https://www.dropbox.com/s/6oaypklmay8rub8/Screen%20Shot%202016-10-05%20at%2010.29.39%20AM.png?dl=0
and Link to what it looks like after export  https://www.dropbox.com/s/ley7ii43xc195u5/Screen%20Shot%202016-10-05%20at%2010.36.05%20AM.png?dl=0
It seem like it has something to do with the font... but I don't understand why.

Thanks for any help.
Alexis

Ah, thanks for the images, Alexis.

That's a known bug that happens with some fonts, I think it may be fixed in the next version (maybe you could check that when a prerelease test version comes out? You can check the news at inkscape.org to see when that's the case).

What usually works as a workaround in the current version is to convert the text to a path.

So, make a duplicate of the text (or the whole drawing), put it on a different layer and hide that layer, so you have a backup in case you need to edit any text later.

Then, in the export layer, select the text and do Path -> Object to Path. It will then no longer be editable by typing in it, but exporting it will work correctly (and you can edit it with the node tool now, if you want to).

Kind Regards,
 Maren
