Bezier curves not creating opaque objects

Asked by ayesha

Good day,

I am creating a number of different overlapping objects using the Bezier curve tool. Each object is on a different layer. I want the object in the top most layer to be opaque so that I can see any other parts of an object underneath. No matter what I set the opacity to or the RGBA to, I can't seem to get the object to become opaque. Furthermore, how do I make the background of a pattern fill opaque white? For example, if the pattern is a made of small black circles, how do I have the white background opaque so that I can't see other objects through it?

Thanks,
Ayesha

Hi Ayesha,

for the opacity, there are actually a couple more places where that can be added. Check out the guide here:
http://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/index.php?action=articles;sa=view;article=18

For the patterns, well, they are as they are. If a stock pattern has transparency in it, then you cannot remove that.
What you can do, is either:

1. to create your own patterns, with the desired colors
Quoting from the manual at flossmanuals (http://en.flossmanuals.net/inkscape/styling-objects/fill-and-stroke/):
"To create your own pattern, select the object from which the pattern will be created. Then select Object > Pattern > Object to Pattern or pressAlt+I. Your object will dissapear from the canvas and appear on the list of patterns.

To do the reverse, select Object > Pattern > Pattern to Object or press Shift+Alt+I."

2. to put a white object below the first object (for example, a dynamic offset without offsetting it, which will change its shape just like the first object, or just a copy of the original with a different fill).

Kind Regards,
 Maren
