Objects to Pattern handles not affecting fills

Asked by mix

( Here's a demonstration of the issue: https://youtu.be/DfQAryYS6Qk )

I've created a new pattern with "Object > Pattern > Objects to Pattern" and then set a path within my drawing to be filled with that new pattern, however when I select the pattern with the Node tool to adjust it, the three handle bars do not affect the filled pattern area within my drawing.

I have tried tweaking the pattern with the X, O, and ☐, and while the original pattern sample will reflect these changes as I make them, the area filled with this pattern in my drawing does not. This was working for me just a couple of days ago without incident so I'm confident I'm doing this correctly, nevertheless I've referred to the documentation and even video tutorials to ensure I'm not missing something, yet it's still not behaving as it should.

I've tried restarting Inkscape entirely, running it as Administrator (didn't need to do this in the past when it worked), and rebooting the entire PC, all to no avail. I was initially sampling the pattern from two text objects in a different layer than the path of my drawing which is being filled, so I tried having them both in the same layer, but this, too, makes no difference.

Am I making an amateur mistake, or is this a new bug? I've reviewed other threads such as https://answers.launchpad.net/inkscape/+question/96180 but found it doesn't apply in this case. I'm really lost, so any advice would be a huge help.

I'm using Inkscape 0.91 r13725 on Windows 10 Build 10586 --please let me know if I can get you any additional info. :)

Hi,

As soon as you do "object to pattern", you are not manipulating the pattern any more, but merely a rectangle having the newly created rectangle as its pattern. So you can change the size of the rectangle, add rounded corners, or adjust the pattern (by tweaking horizontal/vertical rato, starting point, or rotating it). There pattern adjustments can also be done by selecting the umbrella part (just select the umbrella part and go to node edition mode [you may sometimes have to unzoom to see the pattern adjustment handles, it may happen that they are not placed near the object in some cases]), but to be able to edit the shapes themselves, you have to do "pattern to object", then edit, then object to pattern.

Can you help with this problem?
