How do I make my text arch?

I would like to be able to puth text on a curve (like a circle). If I create a circle and then some text and select both and click on text to path nothing happens. I am obviously doing something wrong. Please tell me what!

First select the circle and then choose Path-Object to Path.
After that, proceed as you were before.
