I'm new to the programming part....but I can't open Inkscape on my MacBook Pro...

Asked by hand-talker

I've seen some people talk about coding, but I'm not that much of an expert. Can anyone help me? I've downloaded X11 and 0.46 inkscape, but when I click on the icon, a window pops up (telling me it's going to take a while the first time)... When I click ok, it goes away....and so does inkscape. I've heard great things about this, so I can't wait to play with it.

Thanks. Claudia

Make sure you have the latest version of X11 (v2.2.1?) installed.
Try opening X11 first and then Inkscape.
I had a similar problem when I installed Inkscape; I think this is all I needed to do to get it to run.

Tried that, didn't work. I have X11 2.2.3 installed.

I tried the terminal window theory, even tried opening X11 first...no luck. Looked at the Apple Activity Monitor and it didn't even flinch when I clicked on the inkscape icon.

Another thread on the topic here with a launch-directly-from-within-Inkscape method to try.

FWIW, I also have X11 installed in Applications-Utilities and Inkscape installed in some other folder of my making. Don't know if it matters, but...

I have the same issue. I'm sorry but I don't even know what they mean by X11 v2.2.1.

I'm using Mac OS 10.5.3
