Inkscape + Gimp issue. Please help.

Asked by Hanna

I need to cut out an object from an image and found no way of doing this in Inkscape. So I did it in Gimp by using a path. After 2 days of trying it finally looked like I got it right, I cut out the object, saved it and wanted to continue with it in Inkscape. When I open it in Inkscape, the image looks just like it did before I did all the cutiing in Gimp. I simply don't know what to do anymore. I am so frustrated I could pull my hair out. This should be so simple, yet these two programs are giving me the hardest time ever. Please help.

I am open to any and all suggestions.

Ps. I am not new to graphic design, have been doing it for years, I am just new to these two programs.

I'm not familiar with Gimp.
Are you trying to extract from a bitmap image or are you trying to get part of a vector image?
Simple shape or something complex?
What format did you use to transfer between the two programs?
