Is there any hope, any way how to import graphs and plots from Excel (or anything else)?

Asked by Reo

Is there any hope, any way how to import graphs from Excel (or anything else)? I know this is primarily for drawing and reassembling of graphic objects (like in Corel), but it would be incredible help, for Corel is so stiff if compared to Inkscape.

Actually what formats can be imported and worked with?

You could export the graphic to PostScript (PS or EPS) or even PDF, from Excel, and import it to inkscape.

actually, there is a simple but somewhat convoluted method I use.

I use an ancillary drawing program called Irfan-view, a terrific freeware in a multiude of uses(nothing vector like)
I see a pic I want[a screen full of excel, or whatever). hit the print scr button on my keyboard. This puts the vision into the clipboard. Then I open Irvfan view. do an edit paste thing. I crop the picture and save it as a bmp file. That can be opened in Inkscape.

The "problem", if that suppose a problem at all for the poster, is that you are saving a bitmap copy whereas PS or PDF are vectors. With vector files you will get better quality, it is editable after importing and (generally speaking) you get a smaller file.

It really mostly answered my question and it did help. So I consider to close it, becouse I do not expect it might work with advatiges entirely as in Corel. But the Corel has one unlikely feature. When you put there any graph or plot, whether it is from Excell or from Sigma Plot (that mean out of MS Office) or anything like it, it is not just dead graphic., the rastr. It is add-in window in which you can still manipulate with its properties, labels, axis, switch of some lines, switch them on, change colors and sizes of labels and so on.

I would be happy if Inkscape would allow kind of manipulation with it. But OK, I do not expect it much.

Thanks for your answers.

I close it, for I do not want to create artificial problems to solve, but I would be still interested if anything like it would be proposed.
