Draw lines between nodes of object

Asked by NM Systems

Hello... I am new to graphic design, although I do a lot of server work and back-end managing. I am having trouble trying to figure out how to create an oval, and fill it with horizontal lines. I can manage to create nodes around the perimeter of the oval, but I have no idea of what my next step(s) should be. I know this is a simple problem, but I still need help!

Thanks.

Inkscape actually allows you to fill objects with patterns, one being horizontal lines.
Draw your object and select it.
Select the Object-Fill and Stroke command (or icon).
Under the Fill tab, select Pattern.
In the Pattern Fill drop-down, choose Stripes 1:1 or some other ratio to your liking.
To change the orientation or scale of the stripes, with the object still selected, choose the node editing tool.
Here's where the Inkscape user interaction could use a little help... Somewhere, an x, a box and a circle will appear clustered together, typically in the upper left corner of your page. Once you find the cluster, drag it by the x closer to your object so it's more convenient to relocate.
Drag to box to change the stripe scaling.
Drag the circle to change the stripe angle. To get the stripes precisely horizontal, hold the Ctrl key while dragging to enable snapping.

PS - You can snap to nodes by enabling this feature in File-Document Preferences. For an object such as an oval, the UI is a bit problematic in that the nodes are not visible when you select the line drawing tool...

Thanks c, that solved my question.

PS - I couldn't see the circle, box, and X because I had turned my page guidelines off and was centering my drawing around (0,0). That made that 'triplet' appear way up and to the right, outside of my viewing window.
Thanks for the rapid and accurate response!
