gray line around bitmap export

Asked by cramer

Hi,

First, Inkscape rocks. Nice work.

On drawings where I've imported a bitmap then draw on/with them, when I export to a bitmap, a thin gray border appears around the imported bitmap. How do I get rid of this, without post-editing the exported image?

Thanks!

Have not been able to replicate this. (on a Mac)
a) do you see the grey border onscreen in Inkscape as well or only in the exported bitmap?
b) If the drawn objects extend beyond the boundaries of the imported bitmap, do you see a grey border around these as well?

I'm running Inkscape 0.46 on XP Pro.

a. No gray border seen in inkscape, only in the exported PNG - seen in both XP image preview, and in GIMP (once a white background is added, that is).
b. the original image where I came across this problem had the drawn objects around the imported bitmap - beyond the borders. i did a quick test with the objects entirely on top of the imported image, and no grey border appears in the exported png. it's only when the objects force the export to be larger than the imported bitmap, it seems.
c. in checking the above I got curious about the transparency. if i put a white box behind all the objects in inkscape the export is clean - no gray. so it seems that something about the edge of a imported bitmap, where it meets "nothing", causes the issue - is it being anti-aliased to transparent in some weird way maybe?

thanks

Sounds like this may be one for the bug list.
Also sounds like you've got a good work-around with the white box. Good sleuthing.
