keeping aspect ratio

Asked by Sebastian Bohnen

Dear Inkscape developers,

First of all congratulations, your program is fantastic. I love it. It's my first vector based drawing tool.
I used it on this image for example:

http://e-ducation.net/artsandsciencefqs.htm

And, I use it as described by Ron: http://support.genopro.com/Topic20572-60-1.aspx
to paste pictures of my relatives into a family phot tree.

The thing is, I have to resize all pictures and inkscape does not offer me to resize them
in a 'keep aspect ratio' mode, so I wonder if that could/ will be supported in a future version.

My second question is, if you can recommed a tutorial or a list of ideas of what else I can do with inkscape,
I'm new to vector drawing and inkscape seems to offer a lot of things I don't know how to use yet because
it's hard to discover everything by trail and error.

Thanks,
Sebastian.

Inkscape already supports preserving aspect ratio while resizing. If you're resizing using the corner handles (with the Selector tool), hold down the Ctrl key while dragging the handle. If you're resizing using the controls on the Selector toolbar, click the padlock symbol.
