Clean re-install of Inkscape?

Asked by c

After successfully using Inkscape 0.46 on OS X 10.5.2 for a week, a bug seems to have occurred where 3D boxes can no longer be filled or stroked and attempts to choose default tool colors crash the app. Would like to get back to a clean state to duplicate the issues to report more fully but the problems persist with 1) computer restart, 2) reinstallation of Inkscape, 3) reinstallation of X11. How can I get back to the default, as-installed state? Thanks.

Update:

Have re-established functionality of the 3D Box tool by:

1) drawing an object and selecting it
2) going to Inkscape Preferences/Shapes/3D Box and choosing "Create new objects with: This tool's own style:"
3) pressing the "Take from selection" button to select colors

This does not address the cause of the bug itself but does restore drawing functionality to tools that are affected.

App still crashes if an attempt is made after step 2 above to click on the Fill: or Stroke: boxes instead of "Take from selection". Currently do not know if this behavior is universal or something that has happened since install. Do the Fill or Stroke: preference boxes work for anyone else running Inkscape 0.46 on OS X 10.5.2?

Still would like to know a definitive way to restore the app to its as-first-installed state.

Thx.

Bug described in the question above has been confirmed.
Only lingering puzzle is whether there is a preference file somewhere that can be erased to reset all preferences.

Yes, there's a file called preferences.xml - if you delete this (while Inkscape isn't running) all the preferences will be reset. I'm not sure where this file is on OS X, maybe in ~/.inkscape/

Thanks for the reply, sas. To date, have been unable to find such a file or directory so have been thinking that Inkscape preferences might be set somehow differently in OS X. Have found a .plist file within the Inkscape package but assume that that's not the answer since this file would have been overwritten when I re-installed the app yet the setting remained. Any OS X programmers/user in the house?

See this thread:

You most probably can delete it typing the following into terminal: rm ~/.inkscape/preferences.xml

Can you help with this problem?
