Can't open Inkscape v.46 in OSX 10.5.2

Asked by Bill

This question is similiar to https://answers.launchpad.net/inkscape/+question/25102, which is still unresolved. When I try to open Inkscape, X11 opens and I get an Inkscape window that says that "while inkscape is open, its windows can be displayed or hidden by the X11 application." It also mentions that the first time this version of IS is opened that it may take several minutes while the font caches are built. I click on OK, and all I see is a X11 window that says bash-3.2$

Any ideas how to get this app open? Thanks in advance.

I've run v0.46 in OSX 10.5.2 on a MBP successfully although I recall having difficulties with the app opening when it was first installed. Things that I did to get it working that may or may not help in your case:

1) Installed the latest version of X11
2) Launched X11 first and then launched Inkscape

Subsequently, The app has failed to open just once while showing the X11 bash-3.2$ message. In that case, I was able to open the Apple Activity Monitor (in the Utilities folder) and found an Inkscape process that had hung up. Once I quit the process, Inkscape was able to open normally.
