Black backgroung prints behind image, Why?

Asked by Rhonda

I opened an AI image in inkscape, added to the vector some text and a gradient background. When I print the file, there is a black background that prints behind the image. How can I get rid of this?

Hi Rhonda,

the black printing is most probably a known bug in Inkscape 0.91, 64bit Windows version.

It is caused by an object in your drawing being (partially) transparent.

You can work around it by:
- exporting to PNG, then print that image from another program
- putting a white rectangle at the bottom of your drawing, which is at least as big as your drawing
- eliminating all transparencies in your drawing (no blur, no opacity < 100%, no alpha < 100%)
- using Inkscape 0.91 32bit version

Also see the release notes for the current Inkscape version:

Kind Regards,
 Maren
