how to clear 'recent files' list

All my old drawings are lost, deleted while removing inkscape 4.5 before installing inkscape 4.6.
How can I clear the 'recent files' list?

That list is stored in the preferences.xml file in your Inkscape "profile folder".

Open that file in a text editor and delete tags that contain info on the lost documents. You will find it near the top of the document, in the group with id=documents youll see another group with id=recent. Delete everything inside it (all document tags) and save the file, then open Inkscape and Recent files will be empty.

On windows the location of the file is usually C:\Documents and Settings\[your username]\Application Data\Inkscape\preferences.xml

Did you keep your files in the Inkscape installation directory?

I need to clear my recent file list too but I can't find "Application data". I did a search for "inkscape" but no .xml files showed up.
