how do i add text?

i can't figure out how to add text. i am new to all of this. can some one help?

Hi Rachel,

select the text tool at the left of the screen (click on the button labelled A), then click on the canvas (that's the big white space in the middle of the window), then start to type your text.

Also take a look at the learning resources mentioned at https://inkscape.org/en/learn/ (and submenus) and / or at the tutorials that come with Inkscape (Help -> Tutorials).
