how to set maximum ink density

Asked by Theresa Linden

I am a cover designer. Lightning Source requires that the ink density be under 240%. How can I set that using Inkscape?

I can check the ink density with Adobe Acrobat Pro 9. But I can't change the ink density with it. Everything I read says I need PhotoShop but I don't want (can't afford) PhotoShop.

I tried using a color profile that someone created for PhotoShop. The color profile capped the ink density at 238%. But Inkscape rejected it and closed down.

Is there a color profile that I can use in Inkscape? Is there another way I can change the settings for maximum ink density?

Thank you!

Hi Theresa,

you can use color profiles in Inkscape.

Unfortunately, no other software beside the desktop publishing software Scribus will understand this kind of output from Inkscape, and Scribus has some problems importing some specific SVG features (especially filters, patterns, gradients - everything out of the ordinary... not sure about the current status, you'd need to try it out).

Some color profile names cause Inkscape 0.91 to crash, as far as I remember. Can't tell you anything about your specific profile, as you didn't really give any data in your question (like: Inkscape version, operating system, problematic file, color profile).

If you want to try out the Inkscape -> Scribus -> Printer workflow, please read

The article is old, but in that area, I think almost nothing in Inkscape has changed.

Kind Regards,
 Maren
