I have received a file that will open with inkscape, but how do I go to page 2. I'm only seeing page 1.

From http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Multipage :

"Currently, Inkscape does not have multipage support. The main reason is that the current SVG standard does not support multipage documents."

If you are, for example, opening a PDF document, you can select which page you would like to import from within the dialog box that appears when you try to open the file.
