Hello!

Can you help me, please, the exported PNG files look ruined upon any site I upload them to. Somebody told me that it have something to do with the CMYK to RGB conversion. I was told to use the RGB color selector only, but I decline to believe you can't use anything like CMYK or HSL to set the colors and to export the PNG for the same results sice any color in the InkScape is converted to 8 numbers as you can see in the color selection tab

Can you help me please, how do I export the png files in order they look fine on the web

could you upload the SVG file and a few screenshots (colors in Inkscape, Fill and Stroke dialog of an object that changes colors, colors in browser (which one?), original png image, original svg image) somewhere, so we can see what you are writing about?

Please use a file hosting service, like google drive, dropbox or framadrop.org for this. The answers section does not allow for file uploads.

Generally, the CMYK tab in the color selector does not produce any color managed colors, it's just a different way of entering a color value. It will still be saved in RGB, and also exported PNG files will use that value.

If you're using color management, please also indicate which profiles you are using.

And one thing to check: Where on the web are you using the png files? On your own website directly? Or do you upload them and then some website like facebook etc. does some magic to it and displays it somewhere? Are they maybe converted to jpg before you look at them?

Hi Aenne,

I must admit that I didn't see the issue. Could you point me at the specific thing that is different?

What I did see when using my screen color tool was that in the uploaded images (not svg, not png), the color of the circles was FE8081 in the screenshots, instead of FF8080 in png and svg.

If that is the difference that you mean, then this is most probably due to recompression of the image by the service that allows you to upload it.

Those services try to minimize the download size of images (for display, not the one that will be used for printing, hopefully!) by recompressing to jpg, to make their websites load faster.

As jpg is a lossy file format, things can change... I didn't expect this kind of change, though. So, to make sure, right-click on one of the graphics with the wrong color in your browser and check the file format ('Graphic info' or 'Show graphic'). If it's jpg, then the website's recompression is the culprit.

Hi Maren,

I have added a side by side comparison image. The uploaded images always have darker blurred edges. I thought too this is because the web services compress the images, but the tech support at ArtPal had insisted it have something to do with the CMYK to RGB conversion

Hi Aenne,

the SVG image does not contain any CMYK info (you can check it in its source code - there is no mention of a color profile, and all values are saved in RGB hex format), and the PNG doesn't either (identify output is "Colorspace: sRGB", and, as far as I know, Inkscape can't export a color managed png anyway). All colors are saved in RGB color space. So there really is no reason why this should interfere.

However, blurred, differently colored edges are a typical compression artifact - they usually show in areas with lots of different colors, like anti-aliased edges. Please check the image file type of the file with the ugly edges as suggested above to confirm.

Yes, I believe the images are ruined because of compression either. I'll contact the support once again and update you regarding it
