What is a bounded area and how can I fix an image that says "area not bounded" when trying fill the area with color

Asked by Tammy

I have imported a image and have traced bitmap. I removed the extra layers, but when trying to fill the areas with color it says "area not bounded." I can't find anything that tells me what that means and how to fix it. Thanks!

Hi Tammy,

usually, a bounded area is an area that has all the same color, or where all the colors are within a certain range, which is determined by the threshold value in the tool's toolbar.

To be able to tell you how to fix it, we'd need the image file, a screenshot of your tool's settings in its tool bar, and a description of where exactly you are clicking (attachments do not work here, so if you'd like to get help of this kind, please upload to a file hoster of your choice, or, for example, to framadrop.org).

You can also take a look into one of the manuals instead:
http://en.flossmanuals.net/inkscape/ch018_bucket-fill-tool/ (easy)
http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Bucket.html (detailed)

Kind Regards,
 Maren
