Trouble with SVG output from Visio inside Inkscape

Asked by fuhrmanator

SVG Output (save as SVG) from Visio (multiple versions 2010, 2013) results in text that wraps on a single line only in Inkscape 0.91. I'm not enough of an Inkscape wiz to figure out how to get it to go over multiple lines. It's as if there was no "line feed" (to use an ancient term) in the wraps.

I have a very simple example that's visible in an image: http://imgur.com/BL434wX

How can I fix the text in Inkscape? I suspect this is a Visio (Office?) bug, but maybe it's Inkscape? I have a lot of visio documents I need to work with as SVG, and this is the one thing I can't get past. Thanks!

Hi fuhrmanator,

does this text behave like a flowed text in Visio? The current SVG 1.1 standard does not support flowed text.

What does the file look like when viewed in a webbrowser? If it looks the same, then the problem is with Visio's export...

Did you try opening the Visio files with Inkscape? (File -> Import -> select .vsd file)

If these don't help, please upload three example files somewhere (not here, attachments not supported) - one vsd and the resulting svg from both ways of conversion ( exported from Visio and imported into Inkscape).

Kind Regards,
 Maren

Thanks Maren - given the limitations of this forum (no images especially), I asked the question again in stackexchange at http://graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/questions/71184/how-to-convert-visio-documents-with-flowed-text-to-inkscape-compatible-svg

You'll find more info there, and I hope it doesn't ruffle any feathers here.

Answered over at stackexchange :) (no worries, this section *is* very limited, but there are forums, mailing lists and IRC, too ;) )

Can you help with this problem?
