cant snap to grid (tried googling a solution first)

Asked by krista

Checked document properties, and preferences, and the snap bar. All seems correct. Even deleted and reinstalled the whole inkscape program. But it still won't snap to grid. I'm testing the function with a basic square object. Help? Thank you.

Hi krista,

here's a guide for the new Inkscape snap settings (they changed in 0.91, and documentation hasn't been updated for this):
http://vektorrascheln.de/posts/2016/Feb/snapping-guide-for-inkscape-0-91.html

Does this help?

In my experience, crashes with Inkscape are rare, but may happen in non-standard usage situations. Those are harder to foresee :-)
To minimize data loss from crashes, you can activate the autosave feature via Edit -> Preferences -> Input / Output -> Autosave.

We're interested to know about any crash (or other bug) you experience.
To be able to fix it, the developers need very specific information (operating system, link to Inkscape file you downloaded, steps to reproduce, a file that triggers the crash for you) from the reporter of the issue.
Our issue tracker can be found here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape .

The issue may also already be known. To allow the developers to concentrate on fixing issues, it helps if reporters do a search in the bug tracker first, to see if there's already a report for it.
If you find one that seems to cover the issue, it can be helpful to provide additional information.

If you can't find one that matches your specific issue, please create a new report, and be available for questions from the developers.

Kind Regards,
 Maren

Very informative answer. Unfortunately, I cannot describe the steps leading to the crash, but I will pay attention to that in future. Thanks so much!
