being new to inkscape how do i find out about upgrades or new releases i currently using 0.9.1 and what is the protocol in such actions yours Dave

Hi Dave,

if you want to know if an update is available, the easiest way would be to subscribe to the inkscape-announce mailing list (beware: the list will move soon, so you may need to re-subscribe. This will also be announced on the list).

Or, if you are okay with more mail traffic concerning Inkscape, you can subscribe to the Inkscape user mailing list.

Then there's twitter, google+ where we will announce new versions, our website (https://inkscape.org) and the RSS feed for Inkscape news (https://inkscape.org/en/news/feed/ ), so plenty of options.
