the find/replace function does not work on my Mac

Asked by george weisz

Unlike my office Mac which works, the find/ replace function on my home computer Mac does not produce a menu box that allows me to find text and say reduce it so that overlapping labels can be better viewed. The function that allows me to select text and move it (again to increase visibility) also does not work although it did work initially. I can move the entire figure but not select and move text.

Hi George,

if the dialog doesn't pop up, there are a few possible reasons:

- you're using a dual- or multi-monitor setup, and the popup dialog opens on the other screen
- you just didn't notice the dialog, as it has opened in the dock area at the right, and you may need to scroll down to see it
- the dialog is minimized in the dock, and doesn't automatically maximize in Inkscape 0.91, due to a bug. If this is the case, there will be an icon and / or a short vertical text in the dock, and when you click on it, the dialog will maximize.

For the moving, check if you have grouped the contents. Groups can be moved as one. The status bar at the bottom will always tell you what kind of object you have selected.
Enter a group by double-clicking on it, or ungroup it by hitting Ctrl+U, or hold Ctrl down and click on any element in the group to select a single object inside.

Kind regards,
 Maren
