no select same option in edit menu (ubuntu 14 lts)

Asked by leon

Hi

In my windows copy, there is the select same option available in the edit menu, however in my linux version, it seems
to be missing.

Is that intentional or is there a way to do a complete install on linux?

linux version: ubuntu 14.04 lts

I am using the recommended PPA, so the files are more up to date than the ubuntu repository.

Do you have the measurement tool available in your version on Ubuntu (It's new in 0.91)?
If not, you're using an old Inkscape version and will need to check your ppa settings.

(I am using the ppa version on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, and have that option available.)

Kind regards,

Hi Maren

Thanks for that!

I used this ppa:

ppa:inkscape.dev/stable

and then reinstalled inkscape and it is now v0.91 and the select same option is there.

Just one question - the dev in the ppa, is that for developers/testing or punters like me?

Hi Leon,

that's the correct ppa with the stable Inkscape version. The .dev in its name just refers to its owner.

If you'd like to use the development version, you'd need to use this ppa instead:
https://launchpad.net/~inkscape.dev/+archive/ubuntu/trunk

(but beware, it will not be installed side-by-side to stable, but replace it - unless you install it in a VM, a chroot, a container, or compile yourself)

Kind regards,
 Maren
