Hi Amanda,

without the image, this is hard to tell. If the licence allows, you can upload it somewhere (not here, attachments will not work, use a file hosting service instead (dropbox, google drive, etc.), then we can take a look.

Kind regards,
 Maren

Hi, thanks for answering
There are two links for the images. One is the original image in jpg format, but to convert I used the .ai format, and the other one is the image convertes on .pdf

Hi Amanda,

okay, so now I understand that you downloaded an ai file, and used Inkscape to convert that to pdf.

This is a process that is usually very error prone, as the ai format on import to Inkscape often creates very weird groups, clippings and patterns that don't export well to pdf. As ai is a proprietary format, and Adobe can change it as they like, it's difficult to stay on top of the current ai development for an open source project.

As I don't have the original AI file to test, or at least an SVG file saved from Inkscape, I still can't try to find out which part exactly causes the problem :/

Upon re-importing the pdf, the pattern looks incomplete, and there are many clips and dozens of groups that are not needed at all.

When you edit the AI file,
- save to SVG first as a backup
- try to remove clips and unnecessary groups

as a first step.

You could also try what happens if you turn the pattern into an object, and if it looks okay, turn it back into a pattern.

Just guessing - can't really help without the SVG or AI :)

Kind regards,
 Maren

Hi,

also, usually recent ai files are just pdf files with a proprietary part, and inkscape just imports the pdf part. Thus, the easiest way to do ai->pdf is just to *rename* the file from filename.ai to filename.pdf ; while going through inkscape can introduce errors.

Hope it helps;

Mc

Tried it, works :) (And I had thought it was the other way around - old ai files work that way, while new ones don't anymore ;) )

(I believe the reason for the conversion issue is a problem with the pattern, as it's so often the case with those ai files...
When converted to objects, it looks very weird, probably it had a clip applied before.)

Can you help with this problem?
