How to Restore Colour Preferences in Preferences on Mac

Asked by Dennison Berwick

I'm a newbie and using Inkscape to make line drawings only. So I turned off the colours and opted for Grayscale in Preferences (I thought.)

Now I'm unable to restore the Colour Swatches or get any fill or strokes in anything other than Grayscale. The colour options RGB, Wheel etc show up on right but have no effect. Full/Stroke on bottom left are always Grayscale.

Need the colours to distinguish guides etc.
Thanks

Hi Dennison,

you most probably only set the View to grayscale, not the colors themselves (there is no option to do that in Inkscape, unless you just select a grayscale color for each fill and stroke you make).

Check View -> Color display mode to verify.

Kind regards,

Maren,

many thanks for your reply.
I don't have View - Color display
only View - Color managed view
but this does nothing - no dialog, no changes on screen at all.

I've no swatches at the bottom of the screen - not even grayscale.
I'm loving the program but have obviously got myself in a tangle.

Hi Dennison,

you can get the palette back by activating it in the View menu.
See http://i.imgur.com/ukM9Dfa.png
In that same menu, there is the color display mode switcher (might also just be called 'Display mode' -> 'toggle', in non-current Inkscape versions, i.e. < 0.91)

Btw. colors can also be set using the Fill and Stroke dialog. (Ctrl+Shift+F).

Tutorials are available linked from our website at https://inkscape.org and inside the Inkscape program (Help -> Tutorials).

You can install a more current version of Inkscape from our website's Download page (https://inkscape.org/download )

Kind regards,
 Maren
