Multiple canvases (artboards) in a single file

Asked by unfa

I'm using Inkscape from years, finally started learning Adobe Illustrator to increase my job qualifications.

One thing I like is that one Illustrator project can contain multiple canvases (called artboards) of different sizes, that can be exported simultaneously to seperate PNG files. This is great for creating sets of artwork that share assets or look. Convinient for designing textures, product labels etc...

Is there anything like this going to ever be a part of SVG specification and Inkscape funcionality?

Hi,

I don't think it will be in the svg spec (except under the form of several viewports/viewboxs for different objects that you will be able to reference; but the root svg element viewbox will still be what is the image); since svg is "just" a type of image.

otherwise, I do exactly that by grouping the sets of elements that I want to export, and exporting them; inkscape export window has a batch export checkbox ("batch export selected objects") to do that quickly : you just elect all your groups containing your objects, and export that.

SVG 1.2 has multiple pages in its specifications. See here:
https://www.w3.org/TR/2004/WD-SVG12-20041027/multipage.html

I don't know if Inkscape developers plan to incorporate it or not. Didn't find anything about it in SVG2 draft. Odd...

Can you help with this problem?
