how to write freehand

Asked by J-Mac

I have used MS paint to write freely but would like to switch to inkscape so the shapes are easier to draw and manipulate. What I'm not clear on is how to simply write freehand. I imagine the freehand tool (F6) is the way to go, but how do I make the process appear like normal writing as I'll be videoing the process? In other words, I don't want each new stroke to be "selected" with a box when I complete it. How can I change that?

Here's an example I did in MS paint that I'd like to be able to do in inkscape. http://www.increaseyoursatscore.com/tmsnptpstrategy.html

And a couple less important questions than the big one above: How do I change the line thickness and color for future freehand lines? Can I change the freehand icon that appears as I write?

I'm using windows XP 2002 if that matters. Thank you so much!

Use the Calligraphy tool (Ctrl+F6). It doesn't select the strokes it draws. You can also configure it to a much greater extent than the Freehand tool, includig stroke width, thinning behaviour, etc. It looks really nice, especially if you're using a tablet. As for the icons (I think you meant cursors) there's currently no easy way to change them. The icons can be changed by editing the icons.svg file in the Inkscape directory, but the cursors are hardcoded.

Can you help with this problem?
