Add new attribute in XML editor?

When I use XML editor I can add a new node in the DOM.
I can also edit existing attributes from a particular node, but I cannot add a new one.
Is there any way to do this?

Have the element selected in the XML editor

Type the new value into the area for attribute value

Type the new name into the area for attribute name

Press the "set" button.

Instead of changing an existing attribute, that will create a new attribute.
