after downloading 0.46 cannot open old files from 0.45.1

I downloaded the new inkscape (0.46) this morning and something didn't work right. Now when I open Inkscape a different looking window opens (grey in color instead of beige) and I cannot open or import any old (0.45.1) files. Can't even open my desktop to import. In add or remove programs the inkscape program is still listed a 0.45.1. but something is very different.
I've really enjoyed using the 0.45.1 program. If I can just go back to before trying to download 0.46 that would be wonderful.
