Hi Manuela,

the manual is outdated, the description of the action was changed to make it clearer that Inkscape only exports to PNG (and to make it easier for people who do not know what a 'bitmap' is).

(Use that option and not Save as.... -> Cairo png).

The background color in your png is (most probably) only transparent. Which color will be shown instead of transparency depends upon the program you use to display the image. Some programs show a checkerboard pattern, and some show a black or a white background.

Or maybe you've uploaded your image to facebook or other social media. Those turn png images to jpg. Jpg format does not support transparency, so they need to fill in a color. The color they use for filling in is currently - due to a bug in Inkscape - always black, when transparency of background in Inkscape is 100%.

You can choose to have a white background by just inserting a white rectangle behind your drawing in Inkscape.

Kind regards,
 Maren
