crashes when printing
I downloaded .91 and now when I go to print any old svg files, Inkscape immediately crashes. I'm using a MacBook Pro with El Capitan and an Epson Artisan Printer 1430. Any suggestions? HELP! This is used for my job and I am stuck with files that won't print :/

Hi Melissa,
do you happen to remember if those files contain embedded raster images?
If so, it may help to remove them manually.
Please upload one of those old svg files somewhere so we can take a look. Use a file hosting service for this, as the answers section here does not support attachments.
Kind regards,
Maren

Ah, so I misunderstood. It only crashes when you try to print, not already when you just open the file.
Does it
a) crash when you try to open the print dialog?
b) crash after you pressed the Print button?
Still, I cannot see your file.
Please upload one of those old svg files somewhere so we can take a look.
Use a file hosting service for this, as the answers section here does *NOT* support attachments.
Kind regards,
Maren

It crashes when I hit “print” and even when I hit "print preview.” One work around that is seeming to work is to change the graphic from a vector to a bitmap and up it to 500. But this changes my files and I’m not sure how this will affect them in the future.
I am trying to upload a file somewhere else, but I am not sure how to do this :/
Thank you so much…you’re saving me big time!

Melissa, what I forgot to ask: if you open a new file, or one created with 0.91, and try to print that, does it crash, too?
Possible workarounds:
You can also export your image to print with another program.
If you export to PNG with a high resolution, e.g. 600dpi or more, (which you might already have done, I'm not sure), and then print the exported PNG file from another program, you will not loose any data (the original file is not changed), and you will get a very similar result.
You could also try to export to pdf, but this might also crash, as it's using the same underlying system (might be interesting to know if it does).
Another option could be to open the file in your web browser and print from there, if it looks okay in the browser.
You could upload your file to https:/

Maren
@suv: I think this is a case for your legendary bug knowledge.
I wasn't able to find a bug about crashing printer dialog on OS/X, only for win.
Do you happen to know of one? Or would you like a bug report so this can be explored further? Thank you!

@Hachman - so far, I'm waiting for a test case to be shared by the affected user. I'm rather clueless about what might be going on - whether it's specific to 0.91 on El Capitan or a more generic issue reproducible on other OS/platform (independent of printer model/driver).
One report which came to mind was bug #1461494 - a certain font triggering what appears to be a bug in cairo when converting to PDF (the specific font mentioned in that report is only distributed with more recent versions of OS X). But without any insights about the content of the files the user attempts to print ... it's really just a guess.
Also: 'Print preview' is defunct with current official packages of Inkscape 0.91 for OS - an oversight on my end which will be fixed in the next release:
https:/
If the same crash is triggered by clicking on 'Print Preview' it might be another indicator that the crash is not really print-specific but specific to converting the drawing content to PDF (via cairo).

How can I send you the file? Is there an email address I can send it to?

Melissa, please read comment number 5 here:
https:/
It's better if you share the file in a way that more than one person can take a look, as that will improve chances of getting the problem fixed.
Kind regards,
Maren

Okay. But how do I do that?

Okay, step-by-step:
Open your web browser.
Navigate to https:/
Drag and drop your file on the field where it says 'Drop files here' or click on the smaller button saying 'Click to open the file browser' and select your file.
Wait until the file is uploaded.
Copy-paste the link it will then display (the top one in the green box) into a comment at the bottom of this web site: https:/
Thank you!
Kind regards,
Maren

Seems you had the correct hunch, ~suv! :D
Schrift 'Abadi MT Condensed Extra Bold' ersetzt durch 'DejaVu Sans'
Schrift 'Abadi MT Condensed Light' ersetzt durch 'DejaVu Sans'
Schrift 'Print Clearly' ersetzt durch 'DejaVu Sans'
Schrift 'Weston Free' ersetzt durch 'DejaVu Sans'
--> Schrift 'YuGothic' ersetzt durch 'DejaVu Sans'<--
@Melissa: The font YuGothic (and maybe other fonts) that is used in the file is probably causing the crash, because of a bug.
What you need to do as a workaround is:
select all the text in that font and turn it into a path (Object -> Object to Path). Only then save to pdf or print.
If you want to edit the text again, it might be useful to save a copy of the file before you convert the text into a path.
If it still crashes then, try if it helps to convert all other texts into paths (not sure if other fonts may be affected by the bug).
Kind regards,
Maren
