making circles

Asked by John Redman

I wish to make concentric LINE circles and all I can manage (with the F5 option) is solid circles. I CAN use shift F6 and bend a pair of lines into CLOSE-to circles but I would like true ones. Where I have needed them in my graphic creation, I have used text letter Os and squished them till they appear round. Thanks.

Hi John,

you can remove the fill of a circle and add a stroke. Maybe that is what you want to do? Use the 'Fill + Stroke' dialog for this.
(if you really mean 'concentric', then just duplicate the circle (Ctrl+D), hold Shift and Ctrl down and resize the duplicate to get a concentric, second circle).

I think it might help you to read / play with the first tutorial included in Inkscape:
Help -> Tutorials -> Basic

or the (detailed) manual:

http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Attributes-Fill-Stroke.html

or the (easy) manual:
http://en.flossmanuals.net/inkscape

or take a look at the 'Learn' section on our website to find more:

Kind regards,
 Maren
