No objects to convert to a path in selection

Asked by KevinM

Hi. I'm using Inkscape 0.45.1 and Ubuntu 7.10 X64. I've imported a large JPEG into Inkscape, selected it and then tried to convert it to a path so that I can modify its shape. The message displayed at the bottom of the screen is 'No objects to convert to a path in selection and I can't get the handles to adjust the shape of the picture. Is this a bug ? Do I need to convert the jpeg to a png first before importing the picture?
I'm following a Screencasters/HeathenX video - ep045.avi).

You are missing an important step, he converted the image to a pattern before converting it to a path. You should watch more carefully.
