Hi Julia,

this depends a lot on your operating system, laser engraver hardware and what kind of formats it accepts. I don't think there's a general answer to your question.

I think you should probably do some web research on your engraver model, watch a few (youtube) videos about the topic and most probably, there will be some easy-to-follow instructables at instructables.com, too.

Then there are also some forums, that deal with plotting, cutting and engraving - maybe here: http://www.inkscapecuttingdesign.com/ you can also read up on techniques and then ask specific questions when you encounter difficulties.
