i imported an immage and when i print it, the background is black. what can be done to change this

I imported a gif image. when I print it, the background is black. How do I change the image so this isn't the case?
I saved it as svg image but that doesn't work. And as a jpeg with the same results.

(btw. you can't save to jpeg from Inkscape... export to png instead: File -> Export to PNG)
