Bug or expected: In fullscreen, all interface elements show up, even if set to 'Hide'

Asked by Hachmann

I've hidden the pallette and the rulers to gain space.
When I switch to full screen mode with F11, all interface elements show up, and I have effectively less space than in non-fullscreen mode.
Is this to be expected or is this a bug that should be addressed? (couldn't find it listed)

Feature, not a bug (AFAIU) - the status is saved independently for normal view and full screen - you can use different configurations for either view mode.

Open the preferences file, and look at the first three groups - window, fullscreen, focus: each of them can store the state of the visible elements independently. The 'Focus' mode (canvas only) does not save/restore settings AFAICT (everything's off), but window and fullscreen do (each independently).

A quick search in the mailing list archives:
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.graphics.inkscape.devel/1204/focus=1242
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.graphics.inkscape.devel/3017
and likely others (I stopped after the second thread).

Thank you - just tried it out (should have done that first, of course... arghs..) - also found out that (that part of) the xml file is only changed on closing the program, and that it contains Inkboard settings (I wonder if that chatroom still exists...) - actually looked into that file for the first time ;)

How old are your prefs? AFAICT there's nothing about inkboard in new prefs saved with current trunk (and with 0.91 for that matter) ...

The whiteboard defaults had been removed from the prefs skeleton in
https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~inkscape.dev/inkscape/trunk/revision/13147

Inkscape has no built-in feature to "cleanup" prefs from older versions.

I think they must be from May 2014, so some 0.48 version that came with Ubuntu 14.04/Mint Qiana, which should explain it :)

Or maybe I even copied my config files over from Maya (released 2012) at the time...
