how do I make bead graph page

Asked by cmcgirt

Google said I could make a pattern using your program. Thank you for the program. I am not mathematical at all. I think I might have to know math, but hopefully not. Is there a way to set up the number of rows and columns I need just using the program itself. Also I need the page to be horizontal and cant seem to find the command to do that.
OR can I import a picture of the graph paper I need. I am using windows 7 64 bit. I am making a tealight cover done with Circular or tubular peyote stitch. I know that might be something you dont know.
If you can help or send me to a web page that can help, it would be great and I would be so thankful.

Again, thank you for sharing this wonderful free program!

Hi Chrissy,

1. Change page orientation:
- Go to File -> Document properties and switch from Landscape to Portrait in the first tab.

2. To import images:
- Go to File -> Import... and select the image you want to import

3. To make a pattern with simple rectangular tiles that are all the same:
- Select the object you want to tile
- Edit -> Clone -> Create tiled Clones
- In that huge and frightening dialog (yes, I know!) just leave everything as it is. Only choose the number of rows and columns, and click on 'Create'. This will create a number of clones of the first object.
A clone is not really editable (you can change its size, and if you take special precautions, you can change its colors, but that's about it). What's cool about clones is that if you change the original (to find it, select a clone and hit Shift+D), all clones will change, too.

4. If any of the tiles are supposed to be different, you need to exchange them manually.

5. If many of the tiles are different and you want to order them all manually, take a look at the arrange dialog: Object -> Arrange or use snapping to make them snap to each other.

Also, take a look at the Ubuntu Full Circle magazine, they have a whole series of tips and tricks when working with Inkscape.

And the manual, of course (a little outdated, unfortunately, regarding new features):
