Asked by Andy

Have just moved over from Coreldraw. I am fitting text to a path, which is perfectly straightforward, but, when I delete the path the text is also deleted. How do I retain the text?

Thanks, excellent product by the way

Now that I have had a look at the manual it all comes clear! Ta

Hi Andy,

the text usually is not deleted in that case, but it may happen that it is moved to some place where you don't expect it. Or maybe you had grouped both together and deleted the whole group accidentally.
If you delete the path a text is put on, that will make the text 'snap back' to normal text.

What you can do is:
- either make the path the text is on invisible (stroke and fill alpha set to zero or opacity of the object set to zero) - you won't be able to select it via clicking on it after that, though. If you want to edit the path after this, select it by dragging a selection box around where you think it is.
- if you are certain that you do never want to edit the text again, turn the text into paths (Path -> Object to path), only then delete the path you used to curve it.

Hope this helps,
 kind regards,
  Maren
