Moving image after Trace Bitmap

Asked by Sandra

I am a beginner, with that said, will someone please tell me how I can move the layers after Trace Bitmap. On a tutorial on Youtube, she moved the new vector image off the old raster image. Then moved the different layers to manipulate them. I've followed her instructions and instructions in Inkscape tutorial, but I am unable to move the layers.

My image has multiple colors and textures, for which two or more colors we wish to change to another color. Using GIMP I was unsuccessful because the two colors have many different hues and shadows, as well as sitting behind lettering with open sections within the lettering. We want the main background color and all textures to stay intact. The is a logo my church wishes to change, but keep everything else. In order to keep one of the main colors I had to increase the scans to 125. I thought maybe if I could separate this logo into layers I could select just those parts to change the colors and then have it as a vector for the purpose of brochures, flyers, signs and the website. Any help will be most appreciated?

Thank you very much.

Hi Sandra,

if you can select the vectorized image and move it off from the original, but as a whole:

The scans are grouped after vectorization. Look into the status line at the bottom to get basic info about any object you selected (this is almost *always* very useful!).
Select the group, and then ungroup it to access the single layers:
either right-click and choose 'Ungroup', hit Ctrl+U or Ctrl+Shift+G to achieve this.

If this doesn't solve your problem, please tell us if there is a vectorized image at all generated, and which steps exactly you followed.

Hope this helps,
 Regards,
 Maren
