In Inkscape, how do I draw freehand without creating paths on every stroke?

Asked by Cat

I want to just draw! When I select the pencil, I want it to act like a pencil and just create the lines I draw - like on paper. I don't want to edit them afterwards.

How do I turn the paths off?

Thanks

Hi Cat,

I'm not certain what you mean by 'turn the paths off' :/

Inkscape is a vector drawing program, so *everything* you create with it consists of paths (or rather, vector data - unless you import a raster image), and every drawing you make with it will consist of separate, editable objects. That's the essence of the software, and its purpose. Look into our gallery to see what kind of drawing can be created with Inkscape:
https://inkscape.org/en/gallery/

If you are looking for a painting application, with different brushes, and raster effects, and everything you need for making art like you make it on paper, you should probably take a look at Krita: https://krita.org/ , which is another open source project, that offers a great digital painting application.

Hope this helps - if not, don't hesitate to ask more ;)

Kind regards,
 Maren
