I have imported an image into inkscape and want to remove the person in the foreground to superimpose onto another picture. How can I perform this task?

Hi Chris,

to me, this sounds like a typical task for a raster image editing program (or photo editor), like the Gimp (http://gimp.org).

If you only have raster images (Photos as jpg, or png images) that you want to arrange to form a final image, and do not need any vector elements, I would suggest you use an editor that is most suited to this task. This will also allow for finer photo editing, soft transitions between the upper and lower image etc.

However, it is not impossible to use Inkscape in this way - but the result will, in many cases, be inferior, as Inkscape is designed to be a vector graphics editor.

It offers the option to 'clip' images - that is, to hide every part of an object that goes beyond the outline of another object.
See a tutorial here: http://inkscapetutorials.org/2014/04/22/inkscape-faq-how-do-i-crop-in-inkscape/

You will probably want to draw the clip path with the pencil tool, note the different smoothing settings of the tool in the toolbar at the top and set to a value that gives you a good result.

Kind regards,
 Maren
