imported stenceled drawing of a yard.

Asked by Chad

want to add/delete, re-arrange shapes on imported drawing, align shapes and segmented lines on x & y axis. I was hoping to use the imported document as a backdrop to making additions/deletions on map. Want the original to be a shadow in the background w/ the ability to select previous drawn shapes/lines and rearange them. I was hoping this would work faster then starting from scrath. Also want to do layering as multiple maps w/ diff layers will be created for different end users. I did read the basic tutorial and I didn't see anything in the help menu that talked about imported documents.

Thanks,

Chad

Since i'm a new user for the software, I will settle for the imported drawing as a shadow background and start w/ fresh shapes but i do need to appox. location of some of original shapes while I make adjustments.

Thanks,

Chad

Hi Chad,

does your imported document contain vector or bitmap data? (Can you see pixels if you zoom in?)

If it is a bitmap image, you cannot rearrange the objects using Inkscape, else you probably can. You'd just have to grab the objects (ungroup if necessary - status line at the bottom tells you if something is in a group), and use the Align and Distribute- or Arrange-dialogs (Object menu, at the bottom) to line objects up.

Layers are available via the layers dialog: Ctrl+Shift+L.

Hope this helps for the next time you try this,
 kind regards,
 Maren
