Creating large radius circular arcs

Asked by Andrew Armstrong

I want to create a large radius (5m - 10m) circular arc segment in a drawing. Chord length of 300mm - 600mm. Is there a simple way of doing this and knowing it is circular and not some other curve?

I tried pulling a straight line into a bezier curve with the correct (calculated) mid-point offset but I can't be sure that it is circular.

Appreciate your assistance.

Hi Andrew,

why don't you use the ellipse tool? (shortcut: e)
Calculate the angle of your arc, make an ellipse on the canvas, then enter all values into the tool controls bar at the top to adapt the parameters.

If you need to convert this into a path, go to Path -> Object to Path afterwards.
Note: this will then no longer be a perfect circle, as any approximation using Béziers is just an approximation ;)

Or did I misunderstand what you would like to do?

Kind regards,
 Maren
