User statistics

Asked by Raymond Wayfahrer

Hello,

trying to get involved in the evolution of Inscape, the questions are many. This question is about User Statistics.

How many users of Inkscape is there? How frequently do they use Inkscape and what for?

Having suggested that there should be an LDAP directory in another thread and noticing that the lateset update on facebook was the 12th of july makes me think that we are missing out on a vibrant community. Having that said, there is loads to do in managing the crowd of users and contributers.

Hi Raymond,

there are no user statistics, but you could ask for website page hits on the docs mailing list if you are interested in statistics for website visits.
We log the number of downloads (look at the file detail pages), too, but have not yet found a way to find out about our user structure.
(I personnally think the results of a survey would be highly biased - people who understand that there is a community would probably be more likely to find and answer it - but many of those users who never really visit the website, and only follow a link about 'a free drawing program' from somewhere would probably never be reached by this).

You could start your own survey, of course, or make a suggestion about how to get that data :)

If you would like to help with news management, please send a mail to the docs mailing list. We certainly have a lot of work for someone who would like to write articles about what's currently going on.
Our facebook/g+/twitter accounts will be fed with what we have.

You could also join the facebook / g+ / deviantart groups and help and support users there.

Also take a look here:
https://inkscape.org/en/contribute/to-do-list/
https://inkscape.org/en/contribute/

There's a whole lot of things to do, but only you know what you would like to do (and to learn, possibly) :)

Regards,
 Maren
