"application not responding" when trying to open newly installed inkscap on mac

Asked by Sally

I want to install and run Inkscape on my Mac. I've installed XQuartz and restarted my computer. I then installed Inkscape (0.91) for Mac. My computer is running OS X 10.9.5. I went into applications/utilities and opened XQuartz. A window comes up with the message "bash-3.2$." I went into the preferences and configured them as shown on the Inkscape install page. Then I went to applications and opened Inkscape. A text box popped up that said "Verifying Inkscape" for about 3 seconds. Then the icon showed up in my dock and bounced for about 30 seconds. When it stopped bouncing, I left clicked on the icon and the menu says "Application not responding" How do I successfully install and open Inkscape?

Try the steps described here to temporarily disabled Gatekeeper:
