Inkscape won't give X11 prompt - Mac OSX 10.9.5

Asked by Rae

I'm trying to use Inkscape on my Max OSX 10.9.5, and have followed the instructions to do so. I have installed XQuartz, logged out and in again, and installed Inkscape.

However, when I try to launch Inkscape, the icon bounces at the bottom of the screen for about 30 seconds, then just sits there. When I click on it, I can't see any windows, and I don't get a prompt for finding X11. The icon still sits on the screen as if Inkscape is open, and I have to Force Quit from the icon to get rid of it. XQuartz also does not start up when I do this.

I've tried all the solutions here:
http://grammarofdev.blogspot.no/2013/10/how-to-run-inkscape-in-os-x-109.html

And all the solutions here:
https://answers.launchpad.net/inkscape/+question/259670

echo $DISPLAY gives me this:
/tmp/launch-DTCIe0/org.macosforge.xquartz:0

I'm not particularly familiar with Terminal, so this is a bit over my head. None of these solutions have made any difference. Any suggestions please?

Try the steps described here to temporarily disabled Gatekeeper:
