Fonts in Inkscape v .91

Asked by Rebecca

I used different fonts often in my Inkscape v .48.5 drawings to make wood cut outs. For some reason, in v .91 the font style and size that is selected prior to typing defalts back to Arial 6 or sans-serif 4 once you start typing. The only way you can get it to the font you want is to just type it that way, then select the word, change the font, then scale it...it won't just type the font in the size that you selected on the first try.

Is there a work around for this or some setting I can change somewhere? What am I missing? This was easy in .48.5.

Hi Rebecca,

double-click on the icon for the text tool at the left side of the screen.
What does it say in the tool's preferences for 'Style of new objects'?

If it says 'This tool's own style', then change that to 'last used style'. For me, that works :)

If this doesn't help, report back so we can try to find the cause ;)

Kind regards,
 Maren

No. That did not work. The font still defaults back to Arial.

You can also set a default font in the text and font dialog (bottom left). Maybe that is the problem?

It seems with Arial, the blinking prompt shows up on the screen, but not for any other font. I have found that if you create a text box after selecting the font-of choice, then it will provide a blinking prompt in the box to type and will keep the font from changing back to Arial.

Why do you think it does that? Surely it is not supposed to be that way?

Where do I go to de-select a default font...I don't see anything about that in and around the bottom left?

On my screen, I clicked on the "T" on the tool bar. A window popped up on the right "Text and Font". I scrolled down to the bottom. There are 2 black squares toward the bottom, then at the very bottom, "Set as default" and "Apply" are grayed-out. "Close" is the only selectable option.

If you select any font (need to click on another font in the list), the buttons will no longer be greyed out.

Oh - I think I finally got what you mean...

You want to set the font first via the toolbar, then type and get what you entered.
I just found the corresponding bug report (or better, one of them):

Sorry for the delay :(
