How do you add behaviour to a pen tablet?

I have a Wacom Graphire, and would like to use the "erase" tip (back side) for a special purpose. For example - to always have the selector available.

I don't understand how to do that from the Input Device menu, and I haven't found any answers to this on the internet.

I'm working on a linux (ubuntu) platform, and in the Input Device menu in Inkscape I find both stylus, cursor and erase.

I think Jon A. Cruz is working on this. His tablet support enhancements will probably make it into 0.47, but they might appear sooner in SVN. Until then I don't know whether there is a way to do this from the input devices dialog.
