Old Inkscape user : New Mac os x version 10.10.3 new inscape download, copy and paste from other applications not working

Asked by Debbie Hughes

Hi
Ive been using inkscape for years, but just had a new mac OS X Yosemite version 10.10.3 just downloaded inkscape and i can't copy and paste anything from other applications e.g pages or the internet ( I could do this before on my old mac and old inkscape version )
Copy and paste works within the inkscape programme e.g if i draw a square i can copy and paste that.
Ive tried to change some of the X11 preferences to no avail

The recommended settings for the X11/XQuartz pasteborad preferences are shown on the download page:
https://inkscape.org/en/download/mac-os/

Nothing changed in this regard with recent Inkscape packages for OS X, and to the best of my knowledge current X11/XQuartz (2.7.7) works the same on Yosemite as on older versions of OS X (with the same limitations and inconveniences for Inkscape and other X11-based vector applications).

Data exchange of X11-based applications with native applications is limited (not specific to Inkscape), and this won't change as long as Inkscape uses X11 on OS X (the hopes for improvements aren't that high though for now because the toolkit Inkscape uses (GTK+) has even worse trouble with that even if built using a more native OS X backend rather than X11).

If the X11/XQuartz preferences make no difference at all with your current Inkscape installation - could you please share details which version of Inskcape you have installed (see Inkscape menu 'Help > About Inkscape'), and where you downloaded the DMG from (including the file name of the installer)?

Can you help with this problem?
